FROM IDEA TO IMAGE
This five-day intensive workshop with Ellen Sheidlin explores how ideas evolve into fully developed images through testing, structure, atmosphere, and execution. Working across painting, photography, and visual storytelling, participants move through a complete creative process, from early sketches and visual research to the creation of a final work or execution study.
The workshop is built around Ellen Sheidlin’s three-stage methodology: Sur (idea generation and expansion), Reality (selection, testing, and structural development), and Virtuality (execution and final form). Through composition studies, atmosphere experiments, simplification exercises, medium transformations, and visual comparisons, participants learn how to strengthen an idea rather than continuously abandon and restart it.
Throughout the week, participants develop one chosen concept by testing its composition, scale, emotional atmosphere, color, light, and visual language. The focus is on understanding what gives an image clarity, tension, and emotional presence, while building a more conscious and sustainable creative process. By the end of the workshop, each participant leaves with a completed developed work or final study, along with practical tools for moving from idea to image through observation, decision-making, and sustained execution.

YOUR STAY
Your Arrival & First Day
On the first day, we’ll ease into the experience with a relaxed and welcoming start. We offer a group transfer from Life Drawing Barcelona in the city center. Once everyone has arrived at the venue, we’ll gather for a welcome and introduction session, where we’ll go over the schedule and details of the week ahead. Afterward, you’ll be assigned your room, and we’ll enjoy a laid-back evening with delicious local food and drinks—an opportunity to unwind and get to know each other.
The Workshop Experience
The following day, we’ll dive into five consecutive days of intensive learning with your chosen tutor. The detailed workshop itinerary will be shared on arrival. Throughout the week, we’ll also enjoy field trips, communal dinners, and fun evenings—all carefully arranged so you can focus entirely on learning, creating, and making the most of your time. Throughout the workshop, each participant will have a one-on-one session with their tutor for a personalized portfolio review.
Departure
On the morning of the 7th day, we’ll provide an early group transfer back to the city center, returning to Life Drawing Barcelona, and one later in the afternoon. See our faq’s for travel information.
