Terms & conditions

The terms published by Riven for workshop bookings.

1. Introduction

Riven offers art workshops at various locations, including residential workshops in the Catalan countryside in Spain and Mexico, as well as non-residential workshops in Barcelona, Spain.

The services included in the workshop fee vary depending on the workshop location and format. Participants should carefully review the relevant workshop page and the location-specific conditions below before booking.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, airfare and travel to the workshop destination are not included in the workshop price.

2. Workshop Formats & Included Services

a) Catalan Countryside, Spain

Residential workshops in the Catalan countryside accommodate a maximum of 17 participants and include five days of tuition and six nights of accommodation.

The workshop price includes accommodation, meals, tuition, and the services specifically listed on the relevant workshop page. Travel to Barcelona is not included.

b) Mexico

Residential workshops in Mexico accommodate a maximum of 11 participants and include five days of tuition and six nights of accommodation.

The workshop price includes accommodation, meals, tuition, and the services specifically listed on the relevant workshop page. International and domestic travel to the designated arrival or meeting point is not included unless expressly stated otherwise.

c) Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona city workshops accommodate a maximum of 20 participants and include four days of tuition.

Accommodation is not included. Participants are responsible for arranging and paying for their own accommodation.

Meals and drinks are not included unless expressly stated otherwise on the relevant workshop page.

Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from the workshop venue.

The individual workshop page forms part of the booking conditions and specifies the exact dates, venue, tuition, accommodation, meals, transfers, and other services included in the workshop price. Where the services or arrangements of a particular workshop differ from the general descriptions above, the specific workshop listing applicable at the time of booking will determine what is included.

3. Registration & Acceptance of Terms

By completing a booking and making payment for a Riven workshop or event through the Riven website, the participant confirms that they have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms & Conditions.

Completion of payment constitutes acceptance of these Terms & Conditions and forms part of the agreement between the participant and Riven.

It is the responsibility of the participant to have a valid passport or identification card, along with any required visas, permits, certificates, medical documentation, or other documentation necessary to enter and stay in the country where the workshop takes place.

By registering for any Riven workshop, the participant also agrees to comply with the reasonable rules and regulations established by Riven for the workshop and venue.

4. Booking & Payment

a) Workshop bookings are made directly through the Riven website. Participants can select their preferred workshop and, where applicable, accommodation type and secure their place by completing full payment at the time of booking.

b) Bookings are confirmed upon receipt of payment. Participants will receive a confirmation email once the transaction is complete.

c) Riven reserves the right to cancel a booking and issue a full refund if issues arise concerning payment or availability.

d) Final confirmation that a workshop will proceed will be communicated by email. We strongly advise participants not to book non-refundable flights, accommodation, transportation, or other travel arrangements until this confirmation has been received.

5. Participant Cancellations

a) Participants may cancel their registration up to twelve weeks before the workshop start date and receive a 50% refund.

b) If either the participant or Riven finds a suitable replacement participant for the cancelled place, a full refund will be issued.

c) If no replacement is found and the cancellation occurs within twelve weeks of the workshop start date, no refund will be given.

Participants are strongly advised to obtain appropriate travel and cancellation insurance to protect themselves against circumstances that may prevent them from attending.

6. Cancellations by Riven

If a workshop is cancelled by Riven, participants will receive a 100% refund of the amount paid to Riven, unless different provisions apply as a result of a force majeure event or applicable law.

Riven is not responsible for third-party expenses incurred by participants, such as flights, independently booked accommodation, transportation, or other travel arrangements, except where liability cannot legally be excluded.

For this reason, participants are strongly advised not to make non-refundable travel arrangements until Riven has confirmed that the workshop will proceed.

7. Force Majeure

Riven shall not be responsible for failure to perform or delays in performing its obligations where this results from circumstances beyond Riven's reasonable control.

Such circumstances may include, but are not limited to, war or the threat of war, civil unrest, industrial disputes, terrorist activity, government restrictions, natural disasters, fire, floods, pandemics, epidemics, extreme or adverse weather conditions, transportation disruption, or other comparable events beyond Riven's reasonable control.

Where a workshop is affected by such circumstances, Riven will communicate the available options to participants in accordance with applicable law. Nothing in this section limits any mandatory rights available to participants under applicable consumer law.

8. Minimum Number of Participants

Riven reserves the right to postpone or cancel a workshop if the minimum required number of participants is not met.

If Riven cancels a workshop for this reason, participants will receive a full refund of the workshop fees paid to Riven.

Riven is not responsible for independently booked flights, accommodation, transportation, or other third-party costs, subject to applicable law.

9. Instructor Changes

If an instructor is unable to attend due to illness, unforeseen incapacity, travel disruption, or other circumstances beyond Riven's reasonable control, Riven will make every reasonable effort to provide a suitably qualified substitute instructor so that the workshop can proceed.

If no suitable replacement can be arranged and the workshop must be cancelled, participants will receive a full refund of the workshop fees paid to Riven.

10. Arrival & Late Arrival

Participants are responsible for arranging their travel so that they can arrive in time for the beginning of the workshop or according to the arrival instructions provided by Riven.

If a participant expects to arrive late, they must inform Riven as soon as reasonably possible.

Due to the intensive and progressive nature of the workshop program, as well as the importance of maintaining the continuity and group dynamic of the workshop, participants must arrive no later than the second day of the workshop.

If a participant does not arrive before the beginning of the second day, Riven reserves the right to refuse their participation in the remainder of the workshop where Riven reasonably considers that their late arrival would significantly disrupt the workshop program or group dynamic.

Where participation is refused due to late arrival, the participant will not be entitled to a refund for the workshop or any unused accommodation, meals, tuition, transfers, or other included services.

Riven may make exceptions at its discretion where appropriate, taking into account the circumstances of the delay and the nature of the workshop.

11. Travel Insurance

Participants are strongly advised to arrange appropriate and comprehensive travel insurance covering, where applicable, trip cancellation, travel disruption, personal belongings, accidents, liability, and medical emergencies.

Participants attending residential workshops outside their country of residence are responsible for ensuring that they have appropriate medical and travel insurance coverage.

Riven does not provide personal travel or medical insurance on behalf of participants.

12. Additional Expenses

Any additional products, services, transportation, accommodation, meals, drinks, or other expenses that are not expressly included in the relevant workshop description are the responsibility of the participant.

Any additional costs incurred directly with Riven during the workshop must be settled before the participant's departure.

13. Accommodation Booked Independently

Where accommodation is not included in the workshop price, including Barcelona city workshops, participants are solely responsible for arranging and paying for their accommodation.

Any contract for independently booked accommodation is between the participant and the relevant accommodation provider. Riven is not responsible for the availability, cancellation, quality, location, or cost of independently booked accommodation, subject to applicable law.

Participants are encouraged to choose accommodation that allows sufficient travel time to arrive at the workshop venue at the scheduled starting time each day.

14. Property & Damages

Participants are expected to treat all workshop venues, accommodation provided by Riven, furniture, artwork, equipment, and other property with care and to leave them in the condition in which they were found.

Participants may be held responsible for reasonable costs resulting from damage caused intentionally or through their negligence.

15. Removal of Participants

Riven reserves the right to remove a participant from a workshop and, where accommodation is provided by Riven, from the accommodation if their behaviour is seriously disruptive, dangerous, harmful to others, or in significant violation of the workshop or venue rules.

Where removal results from the participant's conduct, the participant will not normally be entitled to a refund and will be responsible for any resulting accommodation, transportation, or other expenses, subject to applicable law.

16. Liability

Participants are responsible for taking reasonable care of their own safety and belongings while attending a Riven workshop.

Where applicable, participants may be asked to acknowledge venue-specific safety rules or risks upon arrival.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Riven shall not be responsible for:

a) Temporary interruptions to public utilities, transportation, internet access, or other services beyond Riven's reasonable control.

b) Loss, damage, delay, illness, or disruption resulting from circumstances outside Riven's reasonable control, including weather, natural disasters, strikes, war, civil unrest, or other force majeure events.

c) Loss or damage resulting from the actions or omissions of independent third-party service providers, except where Riven is legally responsible for those services.

d) The use of facilities or amenities at a workshop venue, including, where applicable, swimming pools, outdoor areas, recreational facilities, or similar amenities, except where liability cannot legally be excluded.

e) Loss of or damage to vehicles or their contents, whether owned, hired, or rented by the participant, except where caused by circumstances for which Riven is legally responsible.

f) Loss, theft, or damage to personal belongings except where caused by circumstances for which Riven is legally responsible.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

17. Personal Responsibility & Safety

Participants are responsible for acting with reasonable care for their own health, safety, and well-being during the workshop and for following reasonable safety instructions provided by Riven, the instructor, venue staff, or other authorised personnel.

Participants should inform Riven before the workshop of any accessibility requirements or other practical requirements that may materially affect their ability to participate safely in workshop activities.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits Riven's liability where such liability cannot legally be excluded or limited.

18. Limit of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Riven's total contractual liability in connection with a workshop shall not exceed the total amount paid by the participant to Riven for the relevant workshop.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits any liability or consumer right that cannot legally be excluded or limited under applicable law.

19. Accessibility

Accessibility varies between Riven workshop locations. Certain venues, particularly historic or rural properties, may have limited wheelchair access or may not have lifts or other accessibility facilities.

Participants with accessibility requirements should contact Riven before booking so that Riven can provide information regarding the specific venue and discuss whether their requirements can reasonably be accommodated.

20. Transfers & Transportation

Transfer arrangements vary depending on the workshop location.

For residential workshops in the Catalan countryside, Riven provides complimentary transfers to and from the designated Barcelona meeting point at the scheduled times communicated to participants before the workshop.

For residential workshops in Mexico, included transfers are provided from designated meeting points associated with Mexico City or Querétaro Airport. Exact meeting points, scheduled times, and travel instructions will be communicated to participants before the workshop.

Transfers are not provided for Barcelona city workshops unless expressly stated otherwise. Participants are responsible for arranging and paying for their own transportation to and from the workshop venue.

Participants who choose not to use, or are unable to arrive in time for, an included scheduled transfer are responsible for arranging and paying for alternative transportation.

21. Smoking Policy

For the comfort and safety of all participants, smoking is not permitted inside accommodation provided by Riven or in workshop venues and shared indoor spaces.

Participants must comply with any additional smoking restrictions imposed by the relevant venue or applicable local law.

22. Pets

Participants are not permitted to bring pets to residential accommodation or workshop venues unless expressly agreed with Riven in advance.

Where applicable, requests relating to recognised assistance animals should be discussed with Riven before booking so that the accessibility and rules of the relevant venue can be confirmed.

23. Workshop Information

The information provided on the relevant workshop page at the time of booking forms part of the participant's booking and specifies the particular services included in the workshop.

Riven may make reasonable changes to schedules, activities, instructors, venues, meals, transportation arrangements, or other operational details where necessary, provided that such changes do not materially alter the essential nature of the workshop, except where circumstances beyond Riven's reasonable control require otherwise.

Participants will be informed of significant changes as soon as reasonably possible.

24. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms & Conditions and the contract between Riven and the participant shall be governed by Spanish law.

Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms & Conditions or a Riven workshop shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts determined in accordance with applicable law.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions shall deprive a consumer of any mandatory rights, protections, or jurisdiction available to them under applicable consumer law.
